About the Project

Inspired by the coastal festival culture of the Eastern District, “Amble Along the Waterfront” guides audiences along the streets and the coastline to explore three significant Intangible Cultural Heritage festivals:  Tin Hau (Empress of Heaven) Festival, Tam Kung (Lord Tam) Festival, and General Cheung Fei Festival.  Through theatrical storytelling and promenading, this project connects folk tradition of worshipping and seafaring blessings with contemporary urban life, embarking on an intergenerational journey that prompts reflection on local history, community transformation, and human connections.  The project also includes a community exhibition showcasing the behind-the-scenes production, research outcomes, and interactive artworks co-created with audience participation.  Artist Ma Wing-man uses weaving as her primary creative medium, creating costumes and installations, inviting audiences to continue the weaving works in the exhibition, to write and weave their own "Eastern District stories", transforming cultural heritage into tangible and sustainable everyday actions.
