Pretext Quartet (Endless Version) Pre-performance Talk and Performance cum Post-performance Discussion (Completed)

Ivanhoe Lam

(For school purchase only)

Thinking. Contemplating. Speaking. Thinking. Thinking. Speaking…

At the end of the day, is that what you wanted to hear of,
or what I wanted to speak of in the beginning?

Programme Content

Pretext Quartet (Endless Version) is a redeveloped theatrical version of Pretext Quartet. Evolved from Pretext - Lam’s dance project, Pretext Quartet (Endless Version) does not only continue to seek possibilities in the notion of “the moment when thoughts intertwined before words are uttered”. It also focuses on uncovering people’s responses and reflections about what they have just spoken. These bring us to a new question: is what I said and what you heard really the “true words” of mine?

Ivanhoe Lam, the choreographer, is particularly skilled at combining the elements of drama and dance to create a one-of-its-kind aesthetics for space and expression. Using the features of drama and dance, different visions are designed so that concrete “spoken words” and abstract “movements” are woven together. A richly layered experience in performing art is collaboratively created by accomplished dancers Han Mei and Lim Wei-wei, actor-dancer Ng Fung - ming and Grace Yuen.

Ivanhoe Lam

Lam received a diploma in Drama and Dance (Modern Dance) from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majored in choreography, from Codarts, Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
