Pays Tribute to a Classic with a Brand-New Interpretation

Football × Arts Tech × Cantonese Opera

In the summer of 1936, China participated in the Olympics for the first time with a football team largely composed of players from Hong Kong. Led by Asia’s Football King, Lee Wai-Tong, a group of passionate local players from Tai Hang’s small fishing village joined forces with players from China to form the national team. They embarked on a Southeast Asian tour, achieving remarkable results. Amidst national turmoil, war, conflicts between class and identity, the clash between ideals and reality, and the financial struggles of football clubs, a group of spirited young footballers persevered. With unwavering determination, they showcased their signature move – the Ding Tau Chui (header) – overcoming adversity. Their resilience led them to the Berlin Olympics in Germany, making history as the first Chinese national football team to compete on the international stage.
